EN 45011
EN 45011 is a European Standard drawn up with the objective of promoting confidence in the way product certification is carried out, giving confidence to the consumer that products meet identifiable and consistent quality standards. The standard was adopted in 1989 and effectively incorporated the features of BS 7511. EN 45011 requires inspection, testing and surveillance to ensure that quality standards are complied with, and that compliance with the standard can be identified by a certificate, mark of conformity or by license to a supplier.
The three main principles of EN 45011 are:
- Independence
- Third party checks on standards, and
- Normative documentation against which standards can be measured
The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is responsible for accrediting bodies under EN 45011.
