About Us
LMC serves the Northern Ireland Beef and Sheepmeat Industry
Background
The Livestock and Meat Commission for Northern Ireland (LMC), founded by Statute in 1967, is responsible for providing a range of services to the Northern Ireland beef and sheepmeat Industry, and with advising the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) on matters relating to the sector.

The main areas in which LMC seeks to serve are in the provision of market information to producers and processors, the representation of the Industry on all appropriate occasions, and the development and implementation of generic level marketing initiatives in home and export markets.
Activities
LMC is at the centre of the Northern Ireland red meat industry supplying information right across the supply chain. LMC services the Northern Ireland red meat industry by delivering up to the minute market insight allowing those involved in the industry to make informed decisions about their business. LMC also educates the consumer about the true nutritional value of red meat in the diet and promotes beef and sheepmeat in home and export markets. LMC manages the Northern Ireland Farm Quality Assurance Scheme and the beef and sheep classification service.

The Chief Executive of LMC is appointed by the Commission, who in turn appoints a team of executives who are responsible for the operational management of the key functional areas of LMC.
Corporate Management
Within the Corporate section you will find a range of material associated with the whole of LMC's operation and control processes. It also houses key policies which have been published and our work in relation to the Equality agenda and Freedom of Information Act.
LMC Board
Members are appointed by the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development (who also appoints the Chairman) for three-year terms. There are seven members.

The role of Commission Members is to act effectively as Non-Executive Directors of LMC and to exercise the ultimate control on policy. Management of the Commission is delegated by the Board to the Chief Executive and a Management Team. The Chief Executive, having responsibility also as Accounting Officer, is responsible to the Board for the proper conduct of affairs of the Commission and the development and implementation of the policies determined by the Commission Members. Commission Members meet routinely once per month, with additional meetings on an ad hoc basis when circumstances require. For more details please refer to the LMC Annual Report.
