Market Update 29/01/08

Tuesday 29th January 2008

Another increase to cattle prices

Quotes for cattle have increased by another 4-6p at the plants to 230-232p for U3 grade steers and heifers.  Cows are firmer (+4p) at one plant with quotes at 170-180p.  Tight supplies and rising prices across the UK and Ireland have resulted in NI prices increasing.  There were also reports of deals going above those quoted levels.

Hoggets 250-260p

Hogget quotes are unchanged from the end of last week at 250-260p.  Latest mart prices (p/kg):

·        Kilrea (Mon): 231-242p

·        Gortin (Mon evening): 224-249p

·        Saintfield: 209-238p
