Market Update 4/02/08

Monday 4th February 2008

Cattle quotes continue to rise

Quotes for prime cattle have risen by 6p to 236-238p for U3 grades.  Supplies remain tight which is driving prices up in NI and across the rest of the UK.  Demand for beef is reported to be strong.  Cows have increased at some plants at 176-180p, with the majority at 180p for good heavy cows.

Hoggets 260-270p

Hogget quotes have increased by 10p at a couple of plants to 260-270p.  Prices have also risen at the marts due to tighter supplies and strong demand.  Latest mart prices (p/kg):

·        Donemana (Sat 2 Feb):  hoggets 214-246p

·        Omagh (Sat 2 Feb):  hoggets 222-258p

·        Swatragh (Sat 2 Feb):  hoggets 235-255p

·        Crumlin:  hoggets 245-263p

·        Kilrea: hoggets 248-266p
