Market Update 20/02/08

Wednesday 20th February 2008

NI Cattle rise to 250p

Prime cattle prices have increased by 4p at the plants.  Some were quoting 244-246p, but others were at 248-250p for U3 grades.  Indications were that more cattle were at the higher level and there were some suggestions of producers getting slightly higher prices for bigger numbers of cattle.  Cows have increased by 4-10p depending on the factory to 180-200p for heavy continental breeds.

Hoggets up to 300p

Quotes for hoggets have increased by 10p at one plant to 300p, with others so far unchanged at 285-290p.  Prices have continued to rise at the marts.

Latest mart prices (p/kg):

·        Rathfriland (Tues evening): hoggets 270p

·        Martinstown (Tues evening): hoggets 261-317p

·        Ballymena: hoggets 264p
