Trade slightly firmer

Quotes for prime cattle increased by 2p at one plant to 248-250p for U3 grade steers and heifers, while others remained unchanged at 246-248p.  Most plants reported that numbers were slightly tighter compared to the previous few weeks when supplies were increasing.  Cows remained steady at 200-206p.

Hoggets 300p, Spring lambs 400p

Quotes for hoggets increased by 5p at a couple of plants, but they were unchanged elsewhere at 300p.  Spring lambs are also unchanged at 400p/kg, with more plants looking for lambs for the Easter trade.  Prices have increased at the marts for hoggets and lambs.

·        Kilrea (Mon): hoggets 270p286p, spring lambs 366-402p

·        Gortin (Mon evening): hoggets 272-304p, lambs 370-430p

·        Saintfield: hoggets 240-298p, lambs 311p
