Market Update 6/05/08

Tuesday 6th May 2008

Trade slightly firmer

Quotes for prime cattle are unchanged at 260-262p for U3 grades.  Cows are also steady at 210-226p, mostly 220-226p.  Most plants indicated that supplies were coming out at reasonable levels and they were getting enough cattle to meet demand.

Hoggets 300p, Spring lambs 370p

Quotes for hoggets increased by 10p at the plants and spring lambs increased by 20p to 370p.  Prices recovered due to fairly tight supplies in NI and because of increasing prices in GB.

Latest mart prices (p/kg):

·        Crumlin (Mon): spring lambs 350-391p

·        Kilrea (Mon): hoggets 254-267p, spring lambs 367-388p

·        Gortin (Mon evening): hoggets 255-286p, lambs 347-376p

·        Saintfield: hoggets 250p, lambs 300-364p
