Cows slightly firmer

Quotes for steers and heifers are unchanged 260-262p for U3 grades.  The cow trade was firmer and one plant increased its quote by 4p to 230p, with others at 220-226p.  Supplies of cattle are beginning to slow at some factories, but others suggest that there are enough stock to do this week.

Lambs +10p at 390p

Quotes for spring lambs increased 10p at a couple of plants to 390p.  Prices have increased by 40p in the past three weeks, which is unusual for the time of the year.  Hoggets are up 20p at one plant at 320p, with another at 300-310p depending on quality.  Ewe prices increased at the marts.

·        Omagh (Sat 17 May):  hoggets 244-268p, spring lambs 379-393p

·        Swatragh (Sat 17 May):  hoggets 280-290p, spring lambs 380-411p

·        Crumlin:  spring lambs 365-400p

·        Kilrea: hoggets 278-291p, spring lambs 378-400p
