Market Update 7/07/08

Monday 7th July 2008

Cattle prices fall

Quotes for steers and heifers fell by 4p at some plants to 266-268p for U3 grades, although others were only down 2p at 270-272p U3.  Prices came under pressure due to more difficult trading conditions for beef.  Cows fell 4p to 236p at the plants quoting for them.  A couple were not looking for cows due to shorter kills this week and next because of the July holidays.

Lambs unchanged 300p

Lambs were unchanged today at 300p, but quotes for Tuesday onwards were 10p lower at 290p.  Prices were slightly easier over the weekend at the marts, but trade appeared to be fairly steady at the marts today.

·        Donemana (Sat 5 July):  274-296p

·        Swatragh (Sat 5 July):  270-295p

·        Crumlin:  lambs 265-304p
