LMC ADDING A "NORTHERN IRISH FLAVOUR" TO THIS YEAR'S BALMORAL SHOW Wednesday 7th May 2008 The Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC) will bring together key red meat industry facts and figures for this year’s Balmoral show.The LMC will be on stand L3 to meet with the farming industry on a wide range of pressing subjects such as the NI Red Meat Task Force, current market dynamics, classification results, and the farm quality assurance scheme.

NORTHERN IRELAND CATTLE TRADERS AND STOCK OWNERS ASSOCIATION TALK EXPORTS WITH LMC Wednesday 23rd April 2008 A group of Northern Ireland cattle traders and stock owners met in Crumlin last Wednesday night (16 April) to discuss exports with Jelmer Hania, Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC) Export Development Executive.

NEW NUTRITION LEAFLETS AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD Tuesday 15th April 2008 The Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC) for Northern Ireland has produced a series of new nutrition leaflets to raise awareness of the essential nutrients found in beef and lamb. The five leaflet marketing campaign reminds consumers that beef and lamb are important sources of iron, zinc, B vitamins, protein and omega 3 all proven to have positive health benefits when eaten as part of a balanced diet.

NORDIC RED MEAT BUYERS VISIT NORTHERN IRELAND Wednesday 9th April 2008 Swedish and Danish beef and lamb foodservice buyers will be in Northern Ireland next week (31 March) for a trade mission which aims to develop new business opportunities for local red meat companies overseas.

RED MEAT TASK FORCE CALLS FOR GOVERNMENT ACTION Thursday 13th March 2008 The industry members of the Northern Ireland Red Meat Task Force are calling for Government action on a number of critical initiatives to ensure the Northern Ireland red meat industry is economically efficient and not placed at a competitive disadvantage.

PLAN CULLING DECISIONS NOW - DON’T PAY LATER Friday 7th March 2008 The latest NI herd figures from APHIS show that at the start of March 2008 there were 35,844 pre- August 1996 cattle recorded in NI herds.
The average monthly OCDS throughput is approximately 1,700 head. If throughput levels for the rest of 2008 remain at this average rate, then there could be up to 19,000 pre-August 1996 cattle still on NI farms at the end of 2008 when OCDS has ended. After 1 January 2009 all pre- August 1996 cattle will have to be disposed of at a cost to the producer, without any compensation payment.

LMC RECRUITMENT Wednesday 27th February 2008 TECHNICAL OFFICER The Livestock and Meat Commission for Northern Ireland (LMC) is a Statutory Body charged with responsibility for the strategic marketing of beef and lamb from Northern Ireland and with providing a range of services to the red meat industry. We are now seeking a Technical Officer (Grade 5) to carry out Classification duties at meat plants across Northern Ireland. Initial Headquarters location (a meat plant) will be in the North / North West of Northern Ireland.
