LMC ADDING A "NORTHERN IRISH FLAVOUR" TO THIS YEAR'S BALMORAL SHOW

Ref:

Wednesday 7th May 2008

The Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC) will bring together key red meat industry facts and figures for this year’s Balmoral show.
The LMC will be on stand L3 to meet with the farming industry on a wide range of pressing subjects such as the NI Red Meat Task Force, current market dynamics, classification results, and the farm quality assurance scheme.

New to the LMC stand this year will be information on calf rearing and finishing cows for the food chain.

Speaking about this year's show David Rutledge LMC Chief Executive says, “This year we will be focusing on the marketplace in terms of prices and costs and the implication for production profitability. We will be looking to gauge producer's opinions on a number of subjects, including Country of Origin labelling and bluetongue disease. As ever I would like to encourage beef and lamb producers to visit the stand and to talk to us. There have been a number of significant changes to the agri sector this year – changes which impact on the farm business. Ensuring producers have the resources to tackle these challenges is a top priority for LMC.”

Alongside the all-important industry information, LMC cookery demonstrators will be adding a very special 'Northern Irish' flavour – cooking up some delicious beef and lamb recipes from the LMC website www.lovebeefandlamb.com and the LMC Nutritionist will be on hand to guide visitors on the super nutritional aspects of beef and lamb. There will also be a face painter to keep the children occupied.

LMC's key objective is to keep levy payers completely informed, providing them with the necessary tools to meet the challenges head on and avail of opportunities to maximise the productivity, profitability and sustainability of beef and lamb production in Northern Ireland.
