BOOKINGS for the Livestock and Meat Commission’s (LMC) primary school cookery demonstrations opened on Monday 20th March 2023. Teachers interested in making a booking should visit www.food4life.org.uk to complete and submit a booking form.
Encouraging primary school teachers to avail of this unique educational opportunity, LMC’s Marketing and Communications manager, Lauren Patterson said, “Our team of qualified demonstrators bring an interactive farm to fork learning experience to the classroom through the provision of a 40 minute cookery demonstration.
“Demonstrations are tailored to compliment the core aspects of the Key Stage 2 syllabus. LMC demonstrators educate pupils on the health and environmental benefits of Northern Ireland Farm Quality Assured (NIFQA) beef and lamb and the importance of looking for the logo in the farm to fork story. While sharing food and farming facts the demonstrator will cook one beef or lamb recipe, and pupils will have an opportunity to sample the dish at the end of the demonstration.”
Feedback from teachers who availed of the LMC primary school demonstrations during the 2021-22 academic year has been extremely positive.
Ms Kelly, teacher at Fairhill primary school, Dromara remarked, “After the demonstration they were able to give many more examples of food groups and understood the benefits of eating meat. I thought the demonstrator was excellent and the children listened with enthusiasm. It was a great experience for the children.”
Ms Mullan, teacher at St Malachy’s primary school, Castlewellan said, “This demonstration coincided perfectly with our topic ‘our bodies’. It greatly enhanced the children’s knowledge of healthy eating and the benefits of red meat in a balanced diet.”
For almost 25 years LMC has provided NIFQA cookery demonstrations in post primary schools, and this year the Commission is on track to once again deliver 375 demonstrations by the end of March. As we edge into the summer term, LMC is delighted to offer a further 100 demonstrations to primary schools.
LMC’s Education and Consumer Promotions manager, Sarah Toland advised, “LMC primary school cookery demonstrations are available for Key Stage 2 classes throughout Northern Ireland. Demonstrations will be carried out between April and June 2023. For further information, and to book a demonstration please visit www.food4life.org.uk.”
