THE Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC) has awarded a £1500 bursary to CAFRE student, Kerry Stevenson as part of its ongoing commitment to support students as they progress towards careers in the agri-food sector.
Kerry, a first-year higher education student from Carryduff took receipt of the LMC bursary at a recent awards ceremony. The bursary is offered annually by LMC to first year higher education students via a partnership with CAFRE Greenmount and aims to support local agriculture students. It helps build links between industry and those seeking future careers within the agri-food sector.
Presenting Kerry with the award, LMC Chief Executive, Colin Smith said, “We are delighted to present Kerry with this bursary. Throughout her application we were impressed with her knowledge and ability to seamlessly apply learnings from her degree programme to real life scenarios.
“Investing in young people is essential to supporting the future of the agri-food industry. This bursary provides LMC with an opportunity to link in directly with students focussed on pursuing a career within our ever-growing industry. We trust that this bursary will provide valuable financial assistance while also encouraging Kerry, and future students to pursue opportunities available to them.”
Colin went on to note that the bursary provision forms part of the Commission’s wider education programme. He said, “LMC has been successfully operating an education programme for over 25 years. We are pleased to confirm that year on year this programme has grown and developed. We now support pupils from foundation stage through to higher level education, alongside providing resources for teachers and educators.”
