LMC announces attendance at SheepNI 2025

Livestock & Meat Commission June 25, 2025

The Livestock and Meat Commission for Northern Ireland (LMC) has announced that it will attend SheepNI 2025, a key biennial event in the local agricultural calendar, bringing together farmers, industry representatives, and rural communities to celebrate and show support for the Northern Ireland sheep sector.

Set against the County Londonderry backdrop of the McFarlane family farm, SheepNI 2025 will take place on Tuesday 1st July and provide a valuable opportunity for LMC to engage with sheep farmers including participants of the Northern Ireland Beef and Lamb Farm Quality Assurance Scheme (NIBL FQAS) and industry representatives.

The event will centre on two key pillars: knowledge exchange and practical demonstration. The farm operates 1,200 Mule ewes—primarily Texel-cross—alongside a flock of traditional hill ewes, offering an exemplary working environment that reflects the realities of modern sheep farming. This practical and authentic venue will provide an ideal backdrop for showcasing best-in-class industry practices.

Attendees will benefit from a comprehensive seminar programme, led by leading voices in the sector, addressing critical topics such as flock health, nutrition, grassland management, and evolving market trends. Together, these sessions aim to equip producers with actionable insights and innovative strategies to enhance on-farm productivity and sustainability.

LMC Chief Executive Colin Smith said, “LMC’s mission is to deliver value for our levy payers.  We are committed to promoting the sector’s world leading quality credentials and furthering opportunities for the sheep sector to thrive at all levels. Events like this allow us to engage directly with farmers and stakeholders, hear their views, and share the work that LMC is doing to engage in policy development, add value for our levy payers, and support the long-term future of the sector.”
