THE spotlight fell on the Beef Interbreed Champion of Champions event on Friday afternoon at Balmoral Show. Sponsored by the Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC), this competition saw as a strong line up of quality cattle make their way to the showring, eager to find favour with Lancashire judge, Vickie Wood.

After some consideration it was Cranmoney Vee, described by the judge as a ‘feminine animal’, stepping forward to take the coveted champion title. The Limousin was exhibited by Niall Feeney.

Following in reserve was Ballinlare Ultron, a Charolais bull exhibited by the Wilson family. Second reserve went to a commercial heifer from the Shields family.

LMC Chief Executive, Colin Smith congratulated all exhibitors on their achievements, he said, “Congratulations to Mr Feeney on securing the prestigious Beef Interbreed Champion of Champions title with the superb Limousin. Well done also to the Wilson and Shields families on receipt of their respective reserve and second reserve rosettes. The standard of the competition was exceptional and this reflects the hard work and commitment of the breeders and exhibitors.”

Colin also extended the Commission’s thanks to all those involved in planning and co-ordinating the event. He said, “LMC was delighted to provide sponsorship for this event. We wish to take this opportunity to thank the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society (RUAS) for facilitating this competition, Ms Wood, for giving of her time and expertise to judge the competition and finally, all exhibitors; events like this would not be possible without their unwavering passion and commitment to showcase the very best of our local livestock.”
