WITH the countdown well and truly on to the return of the Balmoral Show, the Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC) is pleased to confirm its continued sponsorship of four livestock competition classes.
Commission representatives will be ringside for the sheep interbreed pairs championship, the beef interbreed champion of champions, the sheep young handlers competition and the beef group of five championship.
Commenting LMC Chief Executive, Colin Smith said, “The Balmoral Show is one of the standout events in the agricultural calendar and LMC is delighted to continue its sponsorship of these ever-popular livestock classes. Preparations are well underway as LMC gets ready to return to the show, which takes place from Wednesday 13 to Saturday 16 May.
“LMC’s programme of sponsored events will begin on Friday 15 May in the sheep rings with the Sheep Interbreed Pairs Championship, before moving to the cattle lawn for the Beef Interbreed Champion of Champions. On Saturday 16 May, the Commission has a busy schedule planned, starting with the Sheep Young Handlers Competition and continuing on the cattle lawn with the Native Breed and Continental Breed Beef Group of Five Championships.”
Aside from livestock competition sponsorship the Commission also has exciting plans on stand. This will include welcoming school Key Stage 2 competition winning classes to learn more about farming and where our food comes, with a particular focus on the Northern Ireland Beef and Lamb Farm Quality Assurance Scheme. Entries to the competition are currently open, with LMC Education and Consumer Promotions Manager, Emma Brownlee encouraging teachers to get involved. She said, “LMC is keen to encourage P5, P6 and P7 classes across NI to get creative in a bid to win an unforgettable trip to the Balmoral Show. To enter, each class should create an energetic 30-second video, bringing their classroom to life on screen and explaining why they want to win. Further details on the competition are available on lmceducation.org.uk. Entries close on Tuesday 31 March.”
Concluding Colin said, “The LMC team are looking forward to returning to Balmoral Show. It affords us an important opportunity to engage with farmers and stakeholders. We look forward to sharing more insight to our on-stand activity in the coming weeks.”
