Livestock & Meat Commission June 2, 2026

THE Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC) was pleased to invite competition winning pupils from four primary schools to visit the Balmoral Show.

Benefitting from free entry and transport to and from the Show were, The Moat Primary School, Enniskillen, St Canice Primary School, Dungiven, Seymour Hill Primary School, Dunmurry and Killowen Primary School, Rostrevor.

The schools were each invited to visit the LMC stand where they learnt about the farm-to-fork journey of Northern Ireland Farm Quality Assured (NIFQA) beef and lamb and about how our farmers work hard to produce world-leading red meat for us all to enjoy. Pupils also had an opportunity to watch a cookery demonstration and try a freshly prepared NIFQA recipe. All pupils also received a LMC goodie bag, full of educational resources.

Commenting on the initiative, LMC Education and Consumer Promotions Manager, Emma Brownlee said, “We were delighted to welcome schools to our stand at Balmoral Show and we were impressed with pupils’ knowledge of the agri-food industry and their interest and enthusiasm in the learning more about where our food comes from.”

Reflecting on the visit, Glenn Stewart, Vice Principal of Seymour Hill Primary School said, “On behalf of our school, I would like to sincerely thank the LMC for sponsoring our Primary 7 trip to the Balmoral Show.

“The experience brought learning to life for our pupils, offering valuable insight into agriculture, sustainability and local industry. For many, it was a first-time opportunity and a truly memorable experience in their final year of primary school.”

Concluding Emma said, “The Balmoral Competition complements LMC’s Key Stage 2 programme in which pupils explore the importance of healthy eating and food provenance, including building awareness of the NIFQA logo on beef and lamb products.
