Livestock & Meat Commission May 20, 2026

THE sheep rings were a hive of activity on Friday afternoon at Balmoral Show as the Sheep Interbreed Pairs Championship got underway. Sponsored by the Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC), the eagerly anticipated event saw breed pairs take their spot in the championship line-up.

The competition was ably judged by Douglas Fleming, who following careful consideration tapped out the champion Rouge De L’Ouest pair, exhibited by Michael Graham. Reserve champion went to the Texel pair from Martin Millar and Mark Priestley.

Presenting the winners’ rosettes, LMC Chief Executive, Colin Smith congratulated all exhibitors, remarking on the exceptional standard of entries. He said, “The livestock reflects the year-round hard work and dedication of breeders and exhibitors. A special word of congratulations goes to the champion and reserve pairs on receipt of these well-deserved accolades.”

Colin went on to express the Commission’s thanks to all those involved in planning and co-ordinating the event. He said, “LMC was delighted to provide sponsorship for this event. We wish to take this opportunity to thank the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society (RUAS) for facilitating this competition, Mr Fleming, for giving of his time and expertise to judge the competition and finally, all exhibitors; events like this would not be possible without their unwavering passion and commitment to showcase the very best of our local livestock.”
